Lessons Learned at SHRM25: Reflections from My First National Conference
Attending SHRM25 this year was a milestone for me and Next Level Training Solutions Group. It was my first time participating on a national level as a business owner, and it was truly worth the investment.
Walking into a convention center filled with thousands of HR professionals from across the country was an inspiring reminder of how vital our work is - and how many dedicated people are working every day to build stronger, healthier workplaces.
From the engaging breakout sessions to the wealth of resources offered by vendors, the experience left me energized and equipped with fresh ideas to bring back to my clients and community. Here are three key leadership lessons I’m taking away from SHRM25: 1. Prioritize People Over Process One theme echoed in many sessions: even in a world driven by technology and policies, people are the heart of every organization. Strong leaders never lose sight of the human side of work - listening, understanding, and creating space for real connection. 2. Adaptability Is the New Competitive Edge Today’s workplace is constantly changing - from AI integration to evolving employee expectations. I was reminded that leaders must stay agile, open to new ideas, and ready to pivot. Those who foster adaptability within their teams are the ones who thrive in uncertainty. 3. Invest in Continuous Learning It was inspiring to see so many professionals dedicating time to grow their knowledge and sharpen their skills. As leaders, we set the tone for a culture of learning. When we commit to our development, we empower our teams to do the same - and that’s how organizations move to the next level. SHRM25 confirmed for me that no matter how experienced you are, there’s always more to learn, more connections to make, and more ways to grow. I’m grateful for the insights, the conversations, and the renewed motivation to help organizations build stronger leaders and stronger teams - and to bring new, innovative solutions back to my clients.
